As we all continue on our journey through parenthood, it is so important that we support each other and share stories and ideas which is why we love collaborating with other local parenting bloggers. Together we are so much stronger. After all, they say it takes a village!
In celebration of Mother’s Day, we wanted to learn more from our May cover model and friend, Sheriss Crosskey, founder of Tampa Bay Moms Blog. She shares what inspires her and why she thinks it’s so important we connect with other moms.
What inspired you to start Tampa Bay Moms Blog?
While searching for tips and resources on “mommy-ing” and raising a toddler who was addicted to her pacifier, I came across Dallas Moms Blog, which is a part of the City Moms Blog Network. As a result, I found myself wondering if we had something similar in Tampa Bay that I could add to my bookmarked internet resources. It turns out we did not, so I contacted the City Moms Blog Network and the rest (as they say) is history. I have learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of when I take a chance and commit to something. Through this opportunity, I’m connecting moms to information and parenting perspectives unique to the Tampa Bay area. I get to create an impact on the women in our community, while doing something that I love.—being a mom.
When I started Tampa Bay Moms Blog four years ago, I really didn’t understand how it was going to change my life! I am now a small business owner who gets to work with so many amazing women from across the nation and in the Tampa Bay area. I have become friends with moms in all walks of life (including the moms of Tampa Bay Parenting), many of whom I never would have met had it not been for TBMB. I also get to work closely with local businesses that I already love. I’ve heard stories that absolutely take my breath away. By starting a locally focused parenting website in my city, doors were opened that I never even knew existed. Each day I wake up knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of those around me, and I strive to empower my team of writers, the local businesses I work with, and even myself, to be the absolute best that we can be. I feel so blessed to know that in my role of being a mother and site owner, I’m bringing the mothers around me together in a unique and powerful way. I love that I have built an incredible community, learned about so many great businesses right in my own backyard and been able to connect moms to one another and businesses to help them in their mothership role.
I am only a small piece of the Tampa Bay Moms Blog, but this opportunity has truly been life changing. From starting TBMB and building a team of amazing women to bringing moms together and building a community of moms in the Tampa Bay area–it’s truly a labor of love!
Why is it so important for moms to connect with one another?
As moms, we need to get out. We need to connect and moms need to feel like they’re not alone. I hope that through Tampa Bay Moms Blog, moms find the chance to get out and take time for themselves, that they feel connected to the greater community of moms in our fantastic Bay area, and that they have read at least one thing that has helped them feel less lonely in this journey of Motherhood. Being a mom is tough and we hope to make it easier in some small way.
What do you REALLY want for Mother’s Day?
To sleep in! I want a massage, a mani/pedi, and to enjoy a glass of wine surrounded by my friends on the beach. I want to tuck in my daughter for the night and binge watch Scandal with my husband.
