Turn that Day Trip into a Staycation Beach-Style!

By Laura Byrne

We are so fortunate to call Tampa Bay home. Not only are we a short drive away from the world’s top theme parks and attractions, we also have top rated beaches right in our backyard. Why not spend this summer break exploring some of these hot spots and even some off the beaten path–we promise you won’t regret it!

Since we call Tampa Bay home, we figured we’d share two of our favorite beach getaways for families on both sides of Tampa Bay…yup, we said both sides. (There is a ‘beach’ in Winter Haven’, after all)

Best Day Trips in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay’s Best Staycations for Families

Tampa Bay’s Most Family-Friendly Beaches

TradeWinds Island Grand Resort in St. Pete Beach:

TradeWinds touts itself as the largest playground on St. Pete Beach and they aren’t kidding! You can sit back and relax (or get up and play) while the kids take a ride down the 3-story, 200-foot inflatable slide; bounce and climb on the floating waterpark; or even catch some waves on the Surf WipeOut! The Konk Club Activities Center offers additional on-going activities, and there’s even an opportunity to meet Captain RedBeard for a Pirate Island adventure with pirate stories, treasure hunts, “dive-in” movies by the pool and more. Don’t forget to snag a spot by the campfire to roast marshmallows and enjoy the sunset as a family to end a perfect day at the beach!

The resort is autism-friendly. There are ongoing special offers, so be sure to book on TradewindsResort.com.

LEGOLAND Florida Beach Retreat in Winter Haven:

LEGOLAND Florida invited us to experience the brand new resort before the official grand opening on April 7th and this sandy retreat definitely lives up to the LEGOLAND promise that it’s built for kids!

The resort is designed to get the kids playing outside either on one of the playgrounds nestled in the center of each of the 13 coves of bungalows, or in the swimming pool among floating over-sized LEGO bricks. Parents can relax on the front porch of their bungalow while the kids play or lounge on a beach chair as the kids compete in a sandcastle building contest. It’s the perfect way to unwind after an adventure filled day at the LEGOLAND theme park which is less than a mile away!

Room rates start at $135 per night (not including tax or resort fee). Prices may vary depending on season and availability. Learn more at Legoland.com/florida.
