April 13, 2021
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and as our community begins to recover from the pandemic, we know that families will need resources and guidance to navigate through new and continued challenges.
Over the past year, parents in our community have had to balance work, childcare, and serving as teachers, oftentimes while also facing financial hardship, social isolation, and even the loss of loved ones.
Research and history tell us that stressors like these caused by major crises like the coronavirus pandemic lead to community-wide increases in child abuse, neglect, and other childhood trauma that can have lifelong impacts. It is normal for any family, even one who has always been strong and healthy, to struggle in these unprecedented circumstances.
If you or someone you know could benefit from parenting support right now, Champions for Children is here for you! We are a local non-profit organization focused on helping Tampa Bay families grow stronger together through a range of no-cost bilingual programs that provide family education, individualized parenting support, and parent-child together educational opportunities.
Here’s a look at some of the services we offer to help families be the best they can be:
Every family’s needs are different, so we offer a variety of ways to connect one-on-one. Our home visiting programsprovide regular hour-long sessions to identify and address needs specific to your family, while our case support services can help you find and connect to a wide range of helpful community resources for families. For new moms, our professional lactation consultants offer free breastfeeding support via convenient walk-in clinics or one-on-one virtual visits.
We offer a wide range of weekly, hour-long parent-child educational playgroup options depending on your child’s age and developmental stage, for children aged 0-5.
Navigating newborn care, the ‘Teachable Two’s’ and ‘Thinkable Three’s’ can be challenging. We offer parent support groups led by an expert in child development for you to learn how to support your little ones through these stages of their lives.
Parenting can be a challenge for anyone. Our multi-week positive parenting classes help moms and dads overcome parenting challenges with confidence. We also offer a wide range of special topic workshops to help you master specific skills and knowledge including infant massage, baby sign language, toilet training 101, childbirth, breastfeeding, and much more!
