Start Your New Year with Dance Classes: Learn something new in 2019

By Mary Frances Granell Owner/Director On The Edge at FRDS

For most of us January is the time for resolutions, new beginnings and setting new goals. Dance classes are a great way to encourage creativity while promoting physical activity in children of all ages. There are a multitude of benefits to be gained by children who dance, such as encouraging creativity and self-expression to boosting confidence and self-esteem.  At our new state-of-the-art studio in northwest Hillsborough County, On The Edge at Frank Rey Dance supports and nurtures the love and joy of dance by offering a variety of classes and programs for children and adults.

Our Pre-dance program is designed for children age 2 -5. With a focus on learning the foundation of dance in a lively and fun environment, we offer 45-minute combination classes in ballet/ jazz and tap/ acrobatics. Our pre-dance teachers are experienced and skilled in early childhood dance education.

Our recreational classes are for dancers age 5-18 wishing to participate in a fun and encouraging environment. Dancers can take as many classes as they want each week in ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, hip-hop, lyrical and contemporary. Especially popular is our Teen Beginner classes in ballet, jazz and contemporary where older beginners can enjoy and thrive with other dancers their age.

For the more serious dancers wishing to take their training to new heights, On the Edge offers a pre-professional track. These dancers are required to take a prescribed number of classes/hours per week as well as participate on our Showdancer competition team. Our pre-professional curriculum prepares dancers for college dance programs, professional dance teams and careers in commercial dance and Broadway.

At On The Edge, our classes are not limited to children and teens. January is a great time for adults—experienced or beginner—to make lifestyle changes by adding dance to their weekly routine. If you want to reduce stress, burn calories, prevent memory loss and make new friends, then come down and make that lifestyle change while having fun.

Dances classes are a great way to encourage physical activity and boost personal creativity at any age.
