Family-Friendly Things to Do this Weekend | Feb. 17 & 18

The weather outside is DELIGHTFUL! Celebrate President’s Day weekend with the kids by getting out of the house and doing something together.

We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite things to do with the kids in Tampa Bay! Check it out:

NEW Tampa Bay area EXHIBITS!

Tampa Bay History Center Treasure Seekers

Treasure Seekers: Conquistadors, Pirates and Shipwrecks at the Tampa Bay History Center, OPENS Sunday, February 18  | This ARRRGG-some exhibit is a spectacular collection of artifacts raised from the ocean floor, but it’s also interactive, hands on and designed with kids in mind. It’s on permanent display on the 3rd floor. Make a day out of it by going to lunch at the Columbia Cafe at the Museum and then head for a walk down the Riverwalk! tampabayhistorycenter.org

Light Cloud at Glazer Children’s Museum | The Glazer Children’s Museum recently unveiled Light Cloud, a new interactive exhibit that blends art, sound and learning. The hands on sculpture was created by artist Ivan Toth Depeña and sponsored by Raymond James. You can find it on the first floor! glazermuseum.org

Florida Aquarium Coral Days

Coral Days at The Florida Aquarium, Saturday and Sunday | Celebrate our world’s corals and learn about the importance of protecting corals with coral themed events like a scavenger hunt, build a coral tree similar to the ones scientists build to grow corals, and create corals sculptures out of Play-Doh! Florida State Fair, ends February 19 | Join in on the FUN at the 114th Annual Florida State Fair! Be sure to bring the kids for a day of family-friendly activities, rides, food and more! Some of our favorite highlights are: the NEW WEDU PBS Kids Fun Zone featuring your child’s favorite PBS Kids characters, the NEW Little Farm Hands interactive exhibit for little ones ages 3-7 and the Mooternity Ward where you can meet some of the Fair’s newest arrivals and even feed some adorable baby goats! floridastatefair.com

Patel Conservatory presents Disney’s  TheAristocats  KIDSFeb. 15-18, Thursday Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1 and 4 p.m.|  Join a cast of kids from second through fourth grade as they perform the stage adaptation of Disney’s animated classic motion picture, “The Aristocats,” which follows a family of Parisian felines and a smooth talking tomcat as they experience twists and turns of adventure.  strazcenter.org 

Downtown Dunedin Art Festival, Feb. 17-18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |  Browse original handmade work by fine artists from across the country in downtown Dunedin along Main Street. See a wide array of media and engage with the artists onsite with work available for purchase. Free admission. artfestival.com  

Dilly Dally with Dali, Feb. 17 at 11:45 am| Get those creative juices flowing at the Dali. Explore and create in a hands on environment with games, puzzles, and crafts! Located in the first floor education classroom. FREE. dali.org

Ongoing special events in Tampa Bay:

Gasparilla: A Tampa Tradition , Through March 4 |  Explore the history of Tampa Bay’s most beloved community festival. Learn about the early Gasparilla parades through vintage photographs and Ann Lowe-designed Gasparilla gowns to see how they compare to the way we celebrate today.  plantmuseum.com 

Star Wars™ and the Power of Costume, Through April 1, 2018 |  View this popular temporary exhibit when the Smithsonian traveling exhibition visits the St. Pete museum to showcase its iconic costumes from a galaxy far, far away.  mfastpete.org 

Cirque Du Soleil:  Volta , Feb. 14 – March 4, Various Times|  See Cirque Du Soleil in their high-flying, colorful, acrobatic glory under the big top. “Volta” is inspired by the adventurous spirit of freedom, with action sports taking center stage.  cirquedusoleil.com 

Special Needs events:

Warriors for Autism – Sensory Warriors Program | Feb. 17 and 24, 11 a.m. – noon Get an up-close look at adaptive martial arts training at Warrior Fitness & Sensory in Tampa with programming designed for kids on the autism spectrum and their siblings in a safe and supportive learning environment. Beginning Monday:

Pasco County Fair , Feb. 19 – 25, various times |  Enjoy a day of Midway rides, games, tasty fair food, exhibits, shows and pageant events. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.
