Our Favorite Things to Do with Little Kids at the Florida State Fair!

The Florida State Fair is back February 6-17 at the Florida State Fairgrounds with nearly a CENTURY of building family traditions in Tampa Bay! A century, y’all!

We’re talking about GENERATIONS of families who have experienced the Fair with their kids.

If you’re new to town or have simply never been, this is the year you want to go! If you’ve been, come back!

Sure, there are the things you’d expect at a state fair like farm animals and deep fried everything, but it’s so much more than that.

It truly is a family-friendly event and this year, they’ve got even more FUN in store for you and the kids! There is even an area dedicated just for the little ones with rides and activities just for them like the Giraffe Menagerie and Great American Petting Zoo.

Here are our 10 favorite things to do with little kids at the Florida State Fair.

1. Visit the Midway
This is the place to go for bragging rights because we all know how kids love to share the BIG things they’ve tried for the first time, like a new ride!
The Florida State Fair’s Midway is the largest midway in North America with more than 90 rides! There are even several rides for the wee little ones and of course the family favorite, the Ferris wheel!

2. Giraffe Menagerie and Great American Petting Zoo

There are so many animal encounters at the Florida State Fair, but this is one of our favorites.

It allows you to get up close to meet an feed Twiggs the giraffe and some of his buddies in the petting zoo! Littles get a kick out of this one!

The Mooternity Ward is a favorite where you can meet brand new to the world. The Live Carousel with purebred Welsh ponies and Camel Rides will be life long memory makers for sure! Be sure to stop by the Salute to Ag space which features cows, chickens, goats and more!

4. Little Farm Hands exhibit

This is an indoor exhibit which we LOVE as a way to seek some shade, but the kids might love it even more! This is where they can get hands on with fun farm activities to explore the world of agriculture.

5. Insect Encounter at AgVenture

This area is super cool and a great way to catch some shade indoors as you explore the world of insects up close! This area has so much to see including a way to get active with pedal tractor races!

6. Circus Hollywood and Ripley’s Believe it or Not

Circus Hollywood will be thrilling several times each day with their amazing acrobatics and performances. Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, stop by Ripley’s Believe it or Not for an interactive experience showcasing the things that will make you say WOW!

7. Kids Can Cook!
If your kids are into cooking, they’re going to love meeting radio personality and celebrity chef, Dianne Lindermann of Kids Can Cook!
She’ll be putting on an interactive show, so try to get a front row seat for a chance to be picked to go up on stage as she shows kids how to prepare dishes fresh from the farm.

8. Sea Lion Splash and other animal shows!

The stars of the show, Kimmy, Zoey and Syra will wow you with their skills like balancing balls, one flipper handstands and of course…a sea lion dance! This is so much more than a fun performance, it’s also a way to educate you about the importance of recycling.

The Hollywood Racing Pigs and Extreme Dogs shows also have several performances each day and are absolute must sees! If your kiddos love dogs, they’ll love Paw Palace where you can see man’s best friend put on his best show! The Bears of Bearadise and Ranch Rodeo are also must sees.

9. Thrilling shows and live performances!
Remember the pogo stick when you were a kid? Well, the Xpogo crew is taking it to a whole to elevation…literally! We’re talking heights of more than 9 feet! (Just don’t try it at home-ha!)
They’ll be performing multiple shows daily, so there’s plenty of time to add their show into your day.
Team Big Air is another not to miss. They’ll be showcasing basketball stunts that will leave you in awe! The Demolition Derby is another must see for kids into cars and trucks!

Last, but not least…the Fair is where you find the most unique fair food and this year, there is a whole new menu to try! One new addition is the S’mores Doughnut from Peachey’s Baking Company. You can find a complete list of what’s new here. Also new this year is a Fair Food Crawl-for $25 you can try samples of foods and drinks from across the Fair and then choose your favorite!
