There has been a movement sweeping America since the 1980’s, this surge has led to a return to the classical model for educating our children. Classical education is time tested and proven to yield superior results. Classically educated children consistently score above average on standardized tests, SAT and ACT.
Classical Christian education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue. This is accomplished through training in the liberal arts, familiarity with the great books and influential thinkers of the Western Tradition. A Classical education transmits the inheritance of the Christian West to our children. Familiarity with the Greeks, the Romans and the Bible is essential to understanding our culture and prepares students for success academically and throughout life.
Highlands Latin students begin their study of Latin in second grade. Intensive study of Latin in the grammar-school-years develops the minds of students as no other subject can. Students who have learned how to learn with Latin become better students in all other subjects. The study of classical languages, and the Greek/Roman classics provides a path to wisdom and knowledge that cannot be attained by any other method. In the tradition of Western Civilization, education and classical education have always been synonymous. Classical education can be distinguished from modern education in that it does not neglect the important first step of giving students the classical tools for both intellectual development, and for understanding their classical, Christian heritage.
One way, is through Classic Cottage schools. These Cottage schools are homeschool support programs that meet once or twice per week. Classroom instruction is led by qualified and passionate teachers and then supported by engaged parents.
Highlands Latin Clearwater is a two day per week Classical Christian homeschool support program credentialed by the Classical Latin School Association (CLSA). Our goal is to enhance the homeschooling experience of our students by offering a challenging, traditional academic experience. We implement the nationally recognized Memoria Press curriculum. In all we do, we seek to garner a love for the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.
Highlands Latin Clearwater offers Latin, Classical and Christian studies, composition, grammar, literature, math and science for kindergarten through 6th grade. We plan to add a grade each year through high school.
Highlands Latin Clearwater is located on the campus of Bethel Lutheran Church in Clearwater during the traditional school year (August-May), just off McMullen Booth Road. This location makes the school easily accessible for families across Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties. For more information, join us at our information meeting 4/2018.
