Books and MORE: There is so much to love at your local library!

By Megan Danak

It’s February, Valentine’s Day is upon us, and love is in the air! Below are just a handful of reasons to love your Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, both during this February and throughout the year.

Plan a date with Discovery Pass.  Explore your own backyard with the library’s Discovery Pass program! Discovery Pass provides free admission to a variety of fun local experiences for the entire family – OR for a romantic date. Explore one of Tampa Bay’s local museums, take in a play, or trek with the family through one of our scenic county parks. Passes are available for a number of different local experiences – to check out what’s currently available or place a hold, visit http://bit.ly/FebDiscovery

Planning a more elaborate family getaway? Passport services can help. Start your international journey at the library! Two Hillsborough library locations, Bloomingdale Regional Library and Port Tampa Branch Library, offer U.S. passport acceptance by appointment. For details visit http://bit.ly/FebPassport

Need a gift for your valentine? Get crafty at the library! Check out the library’s event calendar for hands-on DIY and craft events, both for youth and adults. Express your creativity, get a little messy, and learn a new technique you can use to make a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gift. Explore sewing, painting, paper-crafting, and more! Class registration limits may apply. Visit the library’s event calendar to discover a class at a branch near you. http://bit.ly/FindFebEvents

Love that report card! Free homework help with Tutor.com. If your student is struggling, never fear: the library provides free, live one-on-one help via Tutor.com. Across subjects and grade levels, Tutor.com can help your kids overcome challenges and find success. Not loving your current job? Tutor.com also provides career services consultations for adults. Live services are available online from 2PM to midnight, but their comprehensive Skills Center is available 24/7. All you need is a library card to log on: http://bit.ly/FebTutor

Is your teen anti-valentine? We can work with that!  Teens in grades 7-12 can help the library – and earn those volunteer hours for scholarships – by joining a Teen Advisory Board or TAB. TAB members don’t just help shelve books, they work with library staff to run summer kids programs and help plan teen-focused events – like the upcoming “UNvalentine” party at the SouthShore Regional Library (Feb. 12). TAB is a great way for teens to express themselves while learning valuable leadership skills through meaningful work with peers. Find a TAB here: http://bit.ly/FebTAB

Find a book you adoreThe library is making it easier than ever to find a book (… or movie, or music) to fall in love with. This spring, experience HCPLC Connect, our new catalog that will help you quickly find the materials you’re looking for. HCPLC Connect features an improved search, is mobile-friendly, and gives you the chance to review titles and create custom lists, allowing you to share the books you love with the community!
