Imagine you’re a child waking up on Christmas morning and you discover there is nothing under the tree this year. It has been this way since Dad lost his job in July. Mom can’t work because she’s really sick. Then a storm came through the area and knocked down your house. You’ve been staying with Mom’s sister and her three kids ever since, sleeping on the floor and the couch. Now that Christmas is here, there is still no hope in sight.
Unfortunately, this is the harsh reality for many children who are homeless or at the risk of becoming homeless in Tampa Bay. This is where Metropolitan Ministries comes in. Each year they put up a big, white tent in downtown Tampa, as well as other tents in Holiday/New Port Richey and St. Petersburg, to serve local families who are struggling to provide for their children each day.
Metropolitan Ministries offers a unique and dignified experience in which they offer the opportunity for families in need to ‘shop’ for food for a holiday meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas and also ‘shop’ for toys and gifts for children during Christmastime.
While the Ministries receives many generous donations from the community for the families in need. We’re halfway to Christmas and the sad reality is that staff and volunteers already know they won’t have enough gifts for children. Teens are the particular group that usually has the least amount of options for parents to choose from.
We’re throwing a party and collecting toys for Metropolitan Ministries! Join us for LEON – that’s n-o-e-l spelled backwards – on June 23rd at Armature Works. This family-friendly event includes all things holiday-related including a visit with Santa, sixty foot snow slide, and a screening of a family-friendly holiday movie, ELF! Each attendee with a donation of a new unwrapped toy or $10 receives a wristband for unlimited rides on the snow slide.
You won’t want to miss this fun, meaningful event that is great for the whole family while supporting such a worthy cause.
