Struggling families find hope and inspiration at the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent

By Metropolitan Ministries

Many say the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent is “the most special place” in our community during the Christmas season. As weary families walk inside, they’re often surprised to discover how much love our community has for them.

In one area, they’re offered snacks and refreshments. In another, they can receive prayer from caring volunteers. And while Mom and Dad go shopping for food and toys, their children can enjoy games and crafts in the fun-filled Kids Zone.

“It felt like a breath of fresh air, like a weight was being lifted,” said Angela about arriving at the Holiday Tent.

Thousands of local families will miss out on Christmas this year unless caring people step up to help. Please give what you can to bring hope and joy to those who need it most.

The community is responding with donations, and the organization is asking those who can to continue to rally in order to help meet the need for 30,000 struggling families for Christmas. The number of households pre-registered for assistance and still left to serve is about 13,000. The Ministries purchased toys and gifts over the past few days, but at least 10,000 are still needed. There are not enough toys and gifts for teenagers ages 13 to 17, especially boys. Gift ideas include jewelry, purses, makeup, hair accessories, cologne or perfume, electronics, skate boards, earbuds, sports clothing, and hats.  Food items still in need are hams, yams, cereal, and cranberry sauce.

There is a new location this year for the main tent at 2609 N. Rome Avenue in Tampa. In Pasco, the tent is located on the Metropolitan Ministries campus at 3214 US Highway 19 N. in Holiday.
