It took nearly a century, but it’s finally happened. Mickey Mouse has a ride of his own. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is now boarding at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it’s basically magic.
We’ve been hearing from Disney Imagineers for a long time now about how this ride is going to be like no other ride we’ve experienced before. And then there’s the dropping of the keyword we hear with most new Disney attractions…’immersion’. And, oh boy! Immersion into Mickey’s cartoon world is exactly what you get when you step on board the Runnamuck Railroad at the Chinese Theater.
With Goofy as your train conductor, you can pretty much expect that things aren’t going to go quite as planned.
The ride was inspired by the popular Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, so it’s not the exact same Mickey Mouse Clubhouse pal your littles have grown to love. He’s got the same ears and same voice, so there will be little doubt about who they’re dealing with when they spot him on the big screen.
You’ll start in a small standing room theater for a new Mickey Mouse shorts presentation, “Perfect Picnic”. You’ll watch as Mickey and Minnie prepare to go on a picnic in Runnamuck Park singing a song you’ll be humming all day long, “Nothing’s going to stop us now.”
but things get a little wacky when their best pal Pluto gets involved–a pie flies into the smoke stack of the Runnamuck Train–with Goofy taking the lead on Runnamuck Railroad, anything can happen…and will!
We don’t want to totally spoil it, but there’s a super cool surprise allowing you to then step through the screen and into the cartoon world of Mickey Mouse.
You’ll then board the Runnamuck Railroad train car which is actually a trackless vehicle. From there, you’ll be whisked through a wacky ride through Runnamuck Park after a derailment, but don’t worry…your pals Mickey and Minnie will do their best to get you back on track…and find the perfect picnic spot, of course!
Your trackless vehicle will take you through several different immersive scenes including:
There are so many favorite moments we had while going on the media preview rides, but a dance with Daisy Duck is pretty close to the top! We’re still in awe over the trackless vehicle technology and how Imagineers managed to make you feel as if you are in a cartoon world.
You’ll want to be on the look out for some hidden Mickey’s and plenty of Easter eggs!
We’ll have much more from our chats with Disney Imagineers who worked on this ride very soon. In the meantime, check out these photos Disney shared with us from inside the ride since we were not able to take our own photos while on the epic adventure:
