It’s spring break for many students in Tampa Bay are on SPRING BREAK! Don’t fret if you haven’t planned to go anywhere! Lucky you that we have so many incredible options for you and the kids to enjoy. Here are some of our TOP PICKS for this week.
If you are looking for a quiter beach, try one of our favorites…Fort DeSoto’s North Beach! You can even take a ferry to Egmont Key from Fort DeSoto Park. Other quieter beaches include Caledesi Island State Park and Shell Key. Anna Tataris DeJesus of TheGreatEscapePlan.com and co-host of THE SCOOP, shares more details about these family-friendly destinations here.
If a busier, more bustling beach is your family’s style, we always highly recocmmend Clearwater Beach, which was just named the top beach in the USA by Trip Advisor. We love the two covered playground spaces and the plentiful options of places to eat and shop. Get there early to secure a parking spot and avoid the heaviest traffic. You can even park and ride for FREE.
Explore some awesome attractions on the outskirts of Tampa like Dinosaur World in Plant City! Our kids loved searching for gemstones and digging for fossils. There are plenty of shaded areas and picnic benches along with a playground to burn off some extra energy.
When you are wrapped up with your preshistoric fun, head over to Parkesdale Market which is just a few miles away to try one of their famous strawberry milkshakes or strawberry shortcake. The Market will be open through strawberry season this month.
Other favorite day trips include Weeki Wachee Springs–Buccaneer Bay is now open!, Bok Tower Gardens and Wilderness Safari. Read all about these destinations here.
Take a plunge down the brand new Vanish Point waterslide at Adventure Island! Ralf from our team was among the first to slide down the 425 feet of twists and turns! He highly recommends you give it a try too!
Discover the technology that moves driverless vehicles at MOSI! A vehicle is now on display at the recently renovated museum just in time for spring break!
Celebrate Pi Day at Glazer Children’s Museum–on Wednesday, March 14 (3.14, of course!) with a pie fight and pizza pie from Tampa Pizza Company! The event starts at 11am. Stick around and enjoy this month’s special feature of Math and Music–there are some awesome special activities to participate in. Don’t miss the fairly new Gadget Garage! We love it!
Head to ZooTampa on Tuesday at 10am for Toddler Tuesdays! This once a month event is super cute and interactive, designed with our youngest ones in mind! There will be crafts, animal meet and greets and more! You can also grab a Baby Stroll Passport to explore the Zoo and meet some of the new zoo babies! There are so many, a Baby Stroll Passport was a must! You can do the Stroll any day of the week!
Tickets are still available for A Day out with Thomas at the Florida Railroad Museum in Parrish! We went this past weekend and had a blast with our Thomas the Train loving 2-year-old! Tickets started at about $19 and include a ton of fun, interactive activities like a ride on the train, bounce house, petting zoo, play area with train tables and Mega Blocks, and MORE! The final days are this Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
You can also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the whole family at the Mayor’s River O’Green Fest at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa. Watch as the river turns a shade of green and celebrate the holiday with kid-friendly activities, crafts and so much more! It’s a great photo opp and excuse to go exlore the rest of the RiverWalk! Event runs from 11am-5pm.
Get your taste buds ready for a culinary adventure at Busch Gardens for their annual Food & Wine Festival! This is a great opportunity to indroduce your kids to unique foods and flavors they may not have tried before. We think this event is a must-do AND it includes some pretty amazing concerts! The Goo Goo Dolls play Saturday night! Learn more about BuschGardens.com/Tampa.
Check out a water park! Adventure Island and LEGOLAND Florida have opened their water parks. Buccaneer Bay at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is also now open.
