Busch Gardens announces NEW thrilling roller coaster, Tigris!

By Laura Byrne

It was perhaps the worst kept secret in the world of theme park news…gotta file those permits before you build...and today, the cat was finally let out of the bag! Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will be adding a NEW thrill ride to its line up next spring, 2019! Welcome TigrisTM, a new triple-launch steel coaster which will become Florida’s tallest launch coaster. Gulp.

Here’s how it’s going to go down…or up…once you get on the ride according to our fine friends at Busch Gardens:

“Tigris will catapult riders through an exhilarating array of looping twists with forward and backward motion, breath-taking drops, a 150-foot skyward surge, and an inverted heartline roll, all at more than 60 miles per hour. Tigris will race riders along more than 1,800 feet of steel track designed to mimic the awe-inspiring agility of the world’s largest and most powerful cat –the tiger.”

Holy moly, ya’ll. Roller coaster enthusiasts are going to LOVE this new ride. And guess, what? The thrills don’t stop with Tigris. We also got a sneak peek at another new thrill ride that will debut in 2020 in the Gwazi area of the park. Busch Gardens wouldn’t let us in on many details, but we at least know something is in the pipeline.

Tigris is being built right now in the Stanleyville area of the theme park near Jungala®, which is home to the endangered Bengal tigers.

We got a behind the scenes look at the progress. Workers were busy laying the groundwork for what will be a ride like no other in Florida!

“Tigris will be a strong addition to our family of world-class thrill rides. With three intensely exciting launch points, this ride is unlike anything we have in our coaster collection,” said Stewart Clark, president and general manager of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. “This new attraction is a testament to our continuing investment in the park, and bringing new and innovative experiences to our guests.”

One of the coolest pointers about this new ride is the fact that it will also contain an eduational element for riders…woohoo for learning new things! As you wind your way through the queue, you’ll learn more about the plight of the tigers and what is being done to help save them. There are only an estimated 4,000 tigers left in the world.

Another cool fact: 5% of purchases made in the Tigris gift shop will go toward the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund to protect tigers and their habitat!
