Buckle up those skates for a unique experience in Downtown Tampa– ice-skating is back at Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park.
The outdoor experience is transforming the downtown park into a winter wonderland filled with spectacular holiday lights, choo choo train rides, and of course, real ice!
When we say there’s nothing quite like ice-skating on real ice outside in the middle of downtown…in FLORIDA…there’s truly nothing like it.
If you’ve experienced outdoor ice-skating at Winter Village in years past, there are some big changes in 2020 to keep in mind before you head out the door.
First, you’ll need to pre-book your ice-skating time online at WinterVillageTampa.com. This is to keep crowds at a minimum so you have plenty of space to social distance while on the ice. They are keeping capacity at no more than 50%. You will get 75 minutes to skate and new skaters will be allowed on the ice every 30 minutes. Tickets are $15 which includes your skate rental.
Also–you also MUST wear a face mask, even while ice-skating. We tried it with the kids on the sneak preview night and it wasn’t a big deal at all. The kids, and us adults, are pretty much used to wearing masks by now.
Your family can truly make an afternoon/evening out of your visit to Winter Village!
Since Glazer Children’s Museum is nearby, pop over for a visit to check out Gingerbread Village where you can make a gingerbread house out of recycled materials and add it to the growing village! They have more holiday themed activities too. You can even make Winter Village a stop on your Pirate Water Taxi adventure!
Once you’ve wrapped at the museum, walk over to Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park and grab a bite to eat and some drinks at the outdoor market area before you get on the ice at your pre-booked time. While you’re there, browse through the outdoor local shops The Shops of Winter Village like Don Me Now, Popped Shoppe, Modern Paws, Apartment No 3, and Unlock Tampa Bay.
There are plenty of areas to snap cute family photos, so keep that camera handy!
One of our favorite new additions this year is the Choo Choo Train–a trackless open air choo choo that will take you and the kids on a ride around Curtis Hixon Park to enjoy all of the holiday lights. It’s really cute!
Also, be on the look out for Florida ‘snow’! The kids will love to dance under the falling ‘snow flakes’.
