Many summer campers and their parents face a quandary: What digital gadgets to bring? In many cases, the answer is none, as some camps limit or outright ban the use of any consumer electronics on their grounds.
That means that, in addition to packing sunscreen and bug repellant, parents need to check with camp directors about their policies, many of which are changing to adjust to a world of constantly connected kids.
It can be confusing, though, as policies vary: Some camps don’t allow cell phones, but do allow tablets; others allow music players, but not portable game players. And a growing number, such as Longacre Summer Camp in Newport, Pennsylvania, allow children to bring whatever electronic devices they choose, with one condition: They have to make do without them for the first week.
