Best Places in Tampa Bay for Families to Volunteer

Are you looking for a way for your whole family to give back to our community? We found 5 kid-friendly charitable organizations that can use your family’s help to make a difference this holiday season!


Metropolitan Ministries opens its Holiday Tent in downtown Tampa on Nov. 3. Holiday Tent volunteers will distribute food and toys to more than 18,000 families in Tampa Bay this holiday season. More than 10,000 volunteers serve in the Holiday Tent each year and you can too! Learn more:

Feeding Tampa Bay allows children ages 10-15 to volunteer with the supervision and participation of a parent or guardian, so this is a great way for the entire family to work together. If you have young children, consider attending November Family Night on Nov. 18 from 6-8 p.m.  Feeding Tampa Bay will provide kid-friendly, age-appropriate activities to bring awareness to the 1 in 4 children in our communities who go hungry, and give each family member the opportunity to learn and serve. The Salvation Army Kettle Bells will sound on Nov. 12 and the bells will keep ringing through Dec. 24. The entire family can take part in the Red Kettle tradition that got its start in 1895. Money raised assists will local families with food, shelter and emergency assistance. You can register here to learn more about how to take part in Tampa’s Salvation Army Kettle Bell program or learn more: The Tampa branch is looking to place volunteers at more than 100 Publix Super Market, Walmart and Sam’s Club locations throughout Hillsborough between the hours of 11am-7pm.

High Risk Hope’s Books for Babies (all year): Books for Babies is an easy way to involve children with High Risk Hope’s mission to help families dealing with premature birth. The children can a host school book drive or donate their own gently used books to be placed in NICU Napsacks given to the parents of premature infants. Learn more:

Hope Children’s Home takes in abused and orphaned children and provides them a family atmosphere with house parents who are with them at all times to guide and encourage. Hope Children’s Home is entirely supported by community members like you, churches, clubs, and organizations, so your family’s volunteer efforts are vital. **If you have very young children, set out a box and have your child collect food, toys, clothing, and pet food to donate to one of these organizations, your church, animal shelter, or organization close to your heart.
