Cassidy Gonzalez

Extraordinary Girl Nomination

Cassidy has always been a very active and creative young lady. Last year, she was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer and began a journey that no one had imagined. Her upbeat and “can do” attitude was amazing. Despite having to undergo forty-two weeks of chemotherapy; six weeks of radiation, and the resulting side effects of each, she forged forward by making the honor role at school, remaining active in her fifth year as a Girl Scout, and inspiring her school and Girl Scout troop to raise over $14,000 in support of the Children’s Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Only four days after completing her final chemo treatment, she continued to inspire others by walking in the Relay for Life -raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Whether selling Girl Scout cookies, cheering her school team on, spending time with her family and friends, or dealing with the cancer treatments, she has encouraged and motivated those around her. Despite the obstacles life has presented her, helping others and giving back has been foremost in her actions. She has been an extraordinary example to all who are lucky enough to know her.
