Dinos in Motion

“Please touch the exhibits!” At MOSI’s Dinos in Motion! Dinosaurs in Motion is now open at MOSI and will be on display through Mother’s Day in May. Dinos in Motion is free for MOSI members and included with general admission.

When you enter the exhibit, you are immediately greeted by a 44 foot high Metal T-REX! Visitors control the open and close motion of the T-REX, which fills the room with a T-REX size SNAP! The exhibit is filled with several other steel dinosaurs made from cables, gears, and old motorcycle pieces cleverly blended to create an interactive masterpiece! This exhibit is more than art; it is innovation, interaction, and creative learning fun for the whole family.

With levers, pulleys, and even PlayStation controllers, you not only have the ability to control the movements of the dinosaurs, but you can physically see the cables and gears in action that make the dinosaurs move! Visitors can get an inside look at the scientific and robotic operation of this exhibit in action!

The artist, John Payne, who recently passed away in 2008 at the age of 58, wanted to make sure that the visitors to the exhibition have the unique ability to not only manipulate the dinosaurs via different controls, but he wanted to ensure they also saw how it was accomplished. His intention to leave the mechanics exposed was an innovative and creative artistic choice to help visitors learn even more about the operation of this exhibit. In addition to this interactive portion of the exhibit, visitors also will be able to create art and science projects with hands-on activities at Innovation Stations.

Dinos in Motion is an exhibit that is fun for all ages, and a must see!
