If you’ve been missing the silver screen, but not quite ready to head back to the traditional movie theater, Armature Works’ at The Heights District in Tampa is going to soon become your favorite family drive in movie destination! It’s been so popular, they’ve extended movie screenings through December!

The Details: Drive In Movie at Armature Works

RoofTop Cinema Club, a drive in movie experience, debuted at Armature Works’ The Heights District on October 15, 2020. The drive-in experience is great, but what makes it even more exciting…you’ll get to savor the flavors of Armature Works for a pre-movie dinner or during-movie dinner in your own car – so you get the experience of a drive in movie, and gourmet foods!

Rooftop Cinema Club, the company offering the drive in movies at Armature Works, is keeping this at a relatively affordable experience for families starting at $28 per drive in movie vehicle, regardless of how many people may be in the car. Not a bad deal for a families…or even a drive in movie date night!  Drive in movies at Armature Works are offered nightly.

The December Armature Works drive-in movie schedule includes holiday classics like Home Alone, Die Hard (yes, we said Die Hard) The Polar Express, The Grinch, A Christmas Story and more!

Early screenings at around 7:15 pm will be family friendly, followed by second screenings at 10:00 pm.

Here’s how the Drive-In Movie at Armature Works…works

You buy your tickets online and then make your way to Rooftop Cinema’s drive in theater at Armature Works in The Heights District in Tampa. Socially distanced parking will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis depending the type of ticket you buy. There are two sections: Section A and Section B with ticket prices ranging from $28-$34.

With everyone’s health and safety in mind, masks will be required when you exit your vehicle to go to Armature Works’ drive in movie concession stand or the restroom. You are also asked to social distance from those not in your party when on the Armature Works’ property and outside your vehicles at the drive in movie. We’ve all been doing this anyway, so it’s really not a huge ask. We got this.

As for the drive in movie–it will be displayed on a 52-foot screen with audio coming through your vehicle’s FM radio. It’ll be a one of kind experience as you also take in the beautiful view of Downtown Tampa’s skyline twinkling in the background.

We tried it ourselves on a Friday night, and took the kids to see Jurassic Park and it was a blast!

We recommend arriving right when the gates open which is about an hour before the movie starts. This gives you plenty of time to get comfortable and grab snacks. We also brought a big poofy blanket, pillows, and stuffed animals so the kids could snuggle. This was the set up:

There was a slight problem at the end of the drive in movie because our car battery died from listening to the drive in movie on the car radio (lesson learned – when using the car battery, make sure the car’s AC is turned off…).  But no problem, because the Armature Works drive in movie company had a team with a portable battery to jumpstart the handful of cars who did what we did.  So next time we’ll bring a portable radio!
