Emma Harrison

Extraordinary girl nomination

My name is Sara Williams and I am the Kids Who Care Coordinator for the Children’s Dream Fund. Our Kids Who Care program is a wonderful way for school age children to make a dream come true for a child battling a life-threatening illness, instilling a sense of pride, while learning the importance of giving back to their community. Our Kids Who Care program allows participants to choose a child they’d like to sponsor.
8-year-old Emma Harrison had a dream through our organization in 2010 when she was battling cancer. She and her family traveled to NYC where she got to jump on the piano keyboard at FAO Schwarz, visit the zoo at Central Park, ice skate at Rockefeller Center, enjoy a carriage ride in a magnificent purple carriage, and she even experienced a “boutique” day at the American Girl Store (including a doll and owner salon visit, photo shoot and tea).
After her dream, Emma learned about our Kids Who Care program and stated, “Now that I am feeling better I want a girl my age going through treatment for cancer to experience a dream come true.” After finishing her last round of chemotherapy, Emma chose to make a dream come true for 10-year-old Ashley, who is battling leukemia. Ashley’s dream is to set sail to the Caribbean on a Nickelodeon cruise with her family. Emma, with the help of her two best friends, Alexandra Debure & Andrea Gomez-Rodriguez, made and sold homemade cookies, jewelry and headbands at their school, the St. Petersburg Saturday Market, and Eckerd College. They raised enough money to help send 10-year-old Ashley on her dream cruise which departs for the Caribbean on November 3, 2012.
Way to go Emma! The Children’s Dream Fund is so thankful for all your wonderful efforts and Ashley and her family will treasure memories that will last a lifetime!
There are countless fundraisers that can be held to make a child’s dream come true and the possibilities are endless. If you or your child is interested in helping to make a sick child’s dream come true through our Kids Who Care program, please contact Sara Williams at 727-896-6390 or swilliams@childrensdreamfund.com.
