GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SALES HAVE BEGUN

WEST CENTRAL FLORIDA (Jan. 7, 2016) – As of Jan. 4, Girl Scouts throughout west central Florida have begun taking orders for all your Girl Scout cookie favorites.

Through participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Program – the largest girl-run business in the world – girls have the opportunity to learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics, and are empowered to become accomplished women who will use these skills to benefit not only themselves, but the world around them. With their Cookie Program proceeds, girls earn money for Girl Scout activities throughout the year and fund important community projects that benefit a variety of local causes. All proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program stay in our local communities.

This year’s cookie line-up includes Do-Si-Dos®, Samoas®, Tagalongs®, Thin Mints®, Trefoils®, Rah Rah Raisins™, and Savannah Smiles®, all of which are available at the same $4.00 price point as last year and can be pre-ordered or purchased directly at cookie booths. In addition, buyers will be able to purchase Toffee-Tastic™ exclusively during the cookie booth sale. This premium gluten-free cookie, first introduced in 2015, will once again be priced at $5.00 per box.

From Jan. 4-24, girls will take cookie pre-orders, and thousands upon thousands of cookies will be delivered to customers beginning Feb. 19. Cookies will be sold throughout Girl Scouts of West Central Florida’s (GSWCF) eight-county jurisdiction of Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sumter counties.

Due to popular demand, cookie customers will once again be able to participate in GSWCF’s ‘5 for 5’ promotion where customers who purchase five or more boxes of Girl Scout cookies will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win five cases (60 boxes) of cookies! For every five boxes purchased, buyers will receive a 5 for 5 receipt with a unique code and to officially enter the drawing. They must visit www.gswcf.org/5for5 to enter their code and contact information. Five winners will be randomly selected on Feb. 1 (from any entries received by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 30); five additional winners will be randomly selected on March 21 (from any entries received by 11:59 p.m. on Mar. 19). Each code may only be entered once and is only valid for one drawing.

Friday, Feb. 19 marks the start of booth sales, so keep an eye out at your favorite businesses and stores and take a box – or five – home with you! Also beginning Feb. 19, visitwww.gswcf.org/cookies to search for a Girl Scout Cookie booth nearest you using your zip code. Cookie fans with smart phones can download the free Girl Scout Cookie Locator app (Kellogg) by searching for “Cookie Locator” in the iPhone App Store or Android Market Place.

Cookie booth sales end Sunday, March 13.

For those who want to support Girl Scouting in their communities but don’t want to enjoy the cookies themselves, GSWCF offers the Gift of Caring program. Donations of cookies through this program will be delivered to U.S. military troops both in our area and serving overseas. Donations may be made in person through a Girl Scout at any time through March 13; corporations and businesses wishing to purchase at a corporate level may inquire about Gift of Caring sponsorships. Last year, 50,314 boxes of Girl Scout cookies were donated by generous customers in our local communities, providing a much needed taste of home and encouragement for our troops.

Help girls become future business leaders by supporting the Girl Scout Cookie Program. For more information about purchasing Girl Scout Cookies, visit www.gswcf.org/cookies or call (800) 881-4475, ext. 1838.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF) serves over 19,000 girls and nearly 8,500 adult members in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sumter counties. GSWCF receives funding from the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and area United Way agencies. Did you know that more than 53% of all women business owners are Girl Scout alumnae?
