Have you heard of the Plantation on Crystal River?

Sitting on Kings Bay and lacking in the ostentatious and swanky feel, the Plantation’s outdoor beauty and natural wonders more than compensate.

Kings Bay is one of the largest Aquifers in the State, and home to more than 400-600 West Indian Manatees come the cooler months. These Manatees migrate each year to the warmth of these springs. The Plantation on Crystal River is one of the only locations in the Country in which the Federal Government allows for “passive observation” in the water between manatees, and humans. If you are uncomfortable getting into the water with these gentle giants, no worries! You can also view them from the dry boat.

On property is Plantations’ own Adventure center. Should you choose to lodge at POCR, the Dive shop is a 2-3 minute walk from any room on the premises.  First, we get our wet suits.  Plantation offers its customers the very best in its wetsuits, being one of the very few to offer suits with a 5mm thickness. Why does this make a difference? Well a wetsuit is a neoprene insulation suit made for warmth and protection in watersports.  Wetsuits work by trapping a thin layer of water between your body and the suit. This layer of water is warmed by your body which prevents you from loosing too much heat while in the water. A comforting thought when you consider the water being 72 degrees, and the air temp in the colder Florida months at 50 degrees.

Buoyancy is another positive attribute to our thicker wetsuits. Some Guides use “floaties” to keep their clients above the water which can be cumbersome, and noisy if slapped in the water, not necessary here. Our suits offer you significantly more flotation than thinner suits, allowing a gentle swim and providing an interaction that is as silent as possible. This way the manatees are more inclined to approach, get close and maybe give you a cuddle.

Only the best semi dry masks and snorkels for our guests! Semi dry snorkels are designed to keep water out by using a splash guard at the top of the tube.  If water does get inside, usually due to big water splashes or waves, it features a one-way purge valve that lets you flush water out easily.  For those that do not wish to use the rented masks and snorkels, we have equipment for you to purchase as well.

Not to boast, but our Guides are truly the best in the area. CPR/First aid certified, licensed and insured, and trained to the level of Dive Master or Instructor. You and your family will be safe in the knowledge that you are with the utmost of professional, experienced and well-prepared Captains guiding you on your underwater adventure.

We are proud to have Power Poles on our US Coast Guard certified boats. Power poles quickly and silently anchor our boats, whilst minimizing, if not entirely eliminating, any type of anchor damage to the grass beds and river floor.  We pride ourselves on leaving little to no footprint on the environment.

First time diver/snorkeler?  We welcome both experienced divers as well as provide diving instruction to those that need it.  We also provide pre-tour education on passive observation, and how to get the best experience during the tour.

Our tours serve hot chocolate, coffee, waters and provide towel service on each vessel.  A hot shower in our full-service change rooms awaits those who would like it upon their return.

To end a perfect day guests can review and purchase videos and pictures of their manatee experience, and shop everything manatee in the fully stocked Dive shop.

POCR offers a variety of bundles to include  a hotel package featuring accommodations and breakfast with your Florida manatee tour.  Plan your once in a lifetime experience and find out more at
