Hurricane Idalia: What’s Still OPEN in Tampa Bay and What’s Closed

Businesses and parks throughout Tampa Bay are experiencing different levels of impact in the wake of Hurricane Idalia, but many have escaped unscathed and are ready to reopen today.

Even if the area around your home isn’t experiencing flooding, some areas are around the Tampa Bay area, so use caution while driving and avoid areas with flooding, especially around neighborhoods since the wake from your car can splash water into homes and businesses.

We will continue to update this list with more information as it comes through, however, it is still best to check in with each business. Drive safely!

What’s OPEN in Tampa on Wednesday, August 30:

Here are some spots around town that are still open for at least part of the day today. As a reminder–check with each location’s link we’ve included to stay up-to-date as openings can change. And drive safely.

If you need to get out and play:

  • MOSI: 4801 E Fowler Ave (Open during normal business hours from 10 am-5 pm.)
  • LEGOLAND Florida: open during normal business hours according to the website from 10 am-5 pm
  • Peppa Pig Theme Park: open during normal business hours from 10 am-5 pm
  • Altitude Trampoline Park in Tampa: 4340 W Hillsborough Ave, Tampa (Open from 12 pm-9 pm)
  • Urban Air Adventure Park in New Tampa: 6250 Commerce Palms Drive, Tampa. (Open from 10 am-8 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • Urban Air Adventure Park in Port Richey: 9560 US 19, Port Richey (open from 12 pm-8 pm)
  • Vertical Ventures in St. Pete: 116 18th St South (Open from 4 pm-10 pm)
  • Chuck E Cheese: We’re hearing Chuck E Cheese is open on Tuesday for guests.
  • Walt Disney World: If you have an annual pass or days to use, the theme parks are still open as of now. Please continue to check back for updates.
    -Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will be closed on August 30.
    -Due to the inclement weather, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf will be closed on August 30.

Tampa Area Confirmed Closures for Tuesday, August 29:

*Please note, these dates are subject to change.

City of Tampa Parks and Recreation:

12pm – All pools, specialty programs, and activities will close.
6pm – All other facilities and after-school care will close.
Sunset – Marjorie Park Marina will stay open until sunset for gas fueling.

Hillsborough County Parks and Preserves:

No announcements at this time

Pinellas County Parks and Preserves:

An emergency public meeting of the Board of County Commissioners to consider a declaration of a State of Local Emergency will be held tomorrow, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Pinellas County Public Safety Complex, 10750 Ulmerton Road, Largo, Room 180 B. The meeting will be streamed live at: youtube.com/c/PinellasCountyMeetings

Regardless of where the storm goes, Pinellas County could experience dangerous impacts.

Tampa International Airport:

Tampa International Airport will close at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport:

The airport’s terminal building will close at 3:00 pm Tuesday and will reopen at 3:00 pm on Wednesday. Wednesday flights for Allegiant will be canceled.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay:

Following the latest updates on Hurricane Idalia, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday August 29. And will remain closed on Wednesday, August 30.  For any ticket questions, please contact [email protected].

ZooTampa:

Due to Hurricane Idalia will be closed to guests on Tuesday, August 29 for storm preparations and on Wednesday, August 30 for projected severe weather.

Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center at The St. Pete Pier:

Closed for storm preparations, Monday, August 28

Sunken Gardens:

Sunken Gardens will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30 due to Idalia.

Great Explorations Childrens Museum:

Great Explorations will be closed 08/29 and 08/30 for Hurricane Idalia

MOSI:

Statement from MOSI: “Despite the storm’s path, MOSI will remain OPEN to continue welcoming our valued guests. Our dedicated team is closely monitoring the situation and taking every precaution necessary to ensure your visit is enjoyable and secure.” 

Glazer Children’s Museum:

GCM will be closed on Tuesday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 30 due to Idalia.

Sparkman Wharf:

Currently, no closure has been announced.

Straz Center:

Statement: Classes and activities at the Patel Conservatory have been cancelled for Tuesday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 30. Parents and students will be contacted by a representative of the Patel Conservatory. Conditions permitting, the facility will reopen on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Florida Aquarium:

The aquarium will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30 due to Idalia.

The Dali Museum:

The Dali will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 due to Idalia.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium:

CMA will close at 3:00 pm on Monday, August 28 and will remain closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30 due to Idalia.

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature:

Statement: “Due to the changing weather Idalia may bring, there could be some disruptions in program scheduling in the upcoming days at The Bishop. To stay informed and up-to-date, we recommend checking our social media channels for any updates or changes before you head out.”

LEGOLAND Florida (including Water Park and Peppa Pig Theme Park):

Currently, no closure has been announced.

Tampa Bay Lightning:

Currently, no closure has been announced.

Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA):

PSTA is closely monitoring the situation regarding Tropical Storm Idalia. At this time no evacuation order has been issued, and bus service is operating as normal. (8/28/2023 9:00 AM)

Hillsborough County Public Libraries:

All HCPL locations will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30.
