Congratulations to Roxie and Rex on the birth of their foal! Roxie, a Hartmann’s mountain zebra, gave birth to her first foal on January 15, 2016. The yet-to-be-named newborn foal can be viewed daily in her herd habitat at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo with her parents Roxie and Rex.
“We are delighted with this successful birth — a first for Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo,” said Dr. Larry Killmar, Chief Zoological Officer, Senior Vice President, and Zoo Director.
Native to Southern Africa, Hartmann’s mountain zebra are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with approximately 9,000 mature individuals in the population.
Lowry Park Zoo is listed in the “Top 25 Zoos in the U.S” by TripAdvisor (2015). The Zoo is located at 1101 W. Sligh Avenue in Tampa.
