Memorial Day 2014 Events

As the unofficial start of summer comes this weekend, we here at Tampa Bay Parenting have gathered some events to help celebrate Memorial Day! You can always visit our Calendar for up to date family happenings and things to do.


Repurposed DooDad Art/Sculpture Competition
Now through June 5, various times
Encourage the kids to take on this challenge for Hillsborough County Public School students at the Tampa Bay History Center. Young artists are asked to create meaningful art from repurposed objects.

Sea Lion Splash
Through May 31, various times
Stop by Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo to meet their popular visitors and get information about conserving sea lions’ natural habitats.

All Decked Out Skateboard Exhibition
Now Through July 20th, various times
The Polk Museum of Art debuts a selection of contemporary artworks associated with skateboarding in a new exhibition, “All Decked Out,” which will be on display in the museum’s Perkins Gallery from April 26 through July 20. As part of Innoskate 2014, this exhibition celebrates the artistic and innovative spirit of skateboarding.

Adventure Island Fun Card
Through Oct. 12
Enjoy a special promotion and pay for one day for unlimited access to the water park all season long — no blackout dates.

Walk a Mile for a Child Fun Day
May 24th, 6:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
This fundraising walk for Eckerd Community Alternatives, which serves children in the foster care system, starts at 9 a.m. at Al Lopez Park in Tampa. Registration required.

Color Me Rad 5K
May 24, 9 a.m.
Get decked out in colorful garb and hit the pavement running for this Children’s Board of Hillsborough County 5K at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Portion of proceeds benefits community grant for Hillsborough children.

Memorial Day Heat Wave
May 24-26, various times
Show off your best moves during this special event at Glazer Children’s Museum in downtown Tampa.

Memorial Day Military Appreciation
May 26, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Active or retired military personnel will receive free admission with a Department of Defense photo ID. Up to three direct dependents accompanying the adult are entitled to offer as well.

Annual Memorial Day Family FunFest
May 26, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Bring the family to the Armed Forces History Museum in Largo for rock wall climbing, bungee jumping, military vehicle rides, bounce house, face painting and arts and crafts.
