Moms to Know: Terrie Daniel

Terrie Daniel | Assistant Vice President of Supplier Diversity at University of South Florida

With the voice of a song-bird, moves like Jagger and a heart of pure gold, Terrie Daniel is also a master baker, a servant leader and a devout woman of faith. Because of her contributions as a professional at University of South Florida, because of the way she celebrates and empowers her beautiful children to achieve greatness, and because you cannot help but feel outright joy when you are with her, I would love for you to KNOW this incredible mother!

Tell us more about your role with USF and why you are so proud of the accomplishments over the last couple of years.

USF realized that a more strategic focus on supplier diversity was needed, and I was brought on board to build a robust supplier diversity program for the university in mid-2017. Since that time, we have built an amazing program and have spent well over $100+ million with diverse owned suppliers. I am so proud to be connected with an organization who acknowledged their inefficiencies, responded and is now supporting the economic growth and development of our diverse businesses across Tampa Bay. We now have one of the best supplier diversity programs in higher education across the nation, and I am so proud to lead these efforts for such a prestigious organization.

You are a business owner as well. What inspired you to launch this company and what do you love about it?

I’m so excited about Cardinal Consulting Group, LLC! CCG is a boutique firm of professionals that have been working in the field of supplier diversity and equity and inclusion program training and development the past 15+ years. Our target market is building supplier diversity and D&I programs for public and private higher education institutions and corporate and private nonprofit organizations.

This work is at the core of who I am personally, and as an advocate for diversity and inclusion, I was inspired to launch the company. I believe it is vitally important to have a healthy understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion, and it has been proven by various studies that organizations who have a strategic focus in these areas significantly increase their ROI.

The thing that I absolutely love about CCG is this company is positioned to assist organizations create “real” opportunities, and when there are “real” opportunities really great things happen!

What qualities do you instill in your own children and what is your hope for their future?

The number one quality I instill in my children is to walk in integrity wherever they go and in whatever they do. I also want them to know that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and to be confident in themselves and in who they were uniquely created to be. I never want them to conform because they are influenced by someone else’s opinion or perception of them. I want them to understand and love who they are, inside and out, and to celebrate their heritage, their culture and to also be proud of who they are as an individual. My hope for their future is they would prosper and be fulfilled in all they do and impact people in a positive way wherever their path leads them to go. There will be challenges, but stay in faith and know that a good man or woman’s steps are ordered by the Lord!

What are your favorite things to do in Tampa Bay?

I absolutely love going fishing! I know that’s probably a surprise, but I used to go fishing with my daddy as a girl and it brings back so many amazing memories! I also love taking walks along the water at sunset. You can catch me visiting the pier in St. Pete, the beach or walking along the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa. I absolutely love the water. I find peace and tranquility there; it is definitely my happy place.
