August is National Breast Feeding month, and new moms are proudly celebrating and breast feeding their little ones. Breast milk is like liquid gold- it provides all of the nutrition that your baby needs and gives you important bonding time with your baby. Whether you breast feed your child for every meal or you choose to pump, the benefits are astounding.
According to BabyChangingStation.com, babies who have been fed solely with breast milk for at least six months have stronger immune systems and are more likely to maintain a healthy weight. And as St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital presents, women who breast feed are at a lesser risk for the development of breast cancer. With all of the benefits for you and your baby, who wouldn’t want to breast feed?
While breast feeding is wonderfully advantageous, there is going to come a time when it is not practical to do so. There will be a point when you are at work, or out and about in the middle of something when breastfeeding is simply not an option. For instance, a study by Health Day News proved that women who work full time and out of the house are less likely to maintain their breast feeding goals. When this happens, it is important to have a pump.
To prevent contamination, moms are advised not to share or buy used pumps, and to avoid ‘open system’ pump where there is no barrier between the milk collection bottle and the pumping mechanism. In these open systems, breast milk can be exposed to the air and bacteria, and can actually backup into the tubing and pump – areas that are difficult to clean and can become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold and viruses. Instead, moms looking to buy a breast pump should invest in a closed-system like the high-quality, yet affordable, Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump by Evenflo. This pump features a PerfectlyPure closed-system design that prevents milk backup and keeps milk as pure as nature intended. Moms who are pumping should also remember that it is important to keep your pumped milk refrigerated or in a cooler so that it stays fresh and clean for your baby.
In light of National Breast Feeding Month, we are giving away the Evenflow Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump.
