Celebrities are notorious for choosing odd names for their children but who knows why they choose them. Maybe they want their child to stand out or they have some weird obsession with a character or object, but whatever the reason is you can’t help but to wander-what would possess them to choose such odd sounding names?
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s Nicholas Cage and Alice Cage’s son Kal-El who is named after Superman. As a die-hard Superman fan even I think this name is not a good choice. Unless the Cage’s plan on turning their son into Clark Kent overnight by strapping a red cape onto his back, I think it’s safe to say this was a weird name choice.
2. Tu Morrow
Rob Morrow from the TV show Numb3rs named his child Tu Morrow which is probably the most clever of weirdest names. However, after time this funny pun will get old just like Annie’s song Tomorrow.
Actor Jack Lee, named his son Pilot Inspektor after a song by the band Grandaddy called “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot.” Imagine later on when Pilot asks how he got his name, both parents will have to tell him he’s named after a song with the word dumb in it.
The name of Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martins daughter is Apple. Paltrow said they choose the name because “Apples are so sweet, and they’re wholesome, and it’s biblical-and I just thought it sounded so lovely and…clean!” Aside from being the forbidden fruit let’s hope no one tries to take a bite out of her.
The name of Michael Jackson’s son. As tremendous of a man Michael was Blanket’s name is proof that someone can make a simple and comforting word into a disturbing name.
Jermaine Jackson and his wife Halima decided to name their son Jermajesty, an epic fail. Combining your name with the word “majesty” says a little about your ego.
7. North West
The most known odd name was given to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter. Now her name will always be associated with two directions.
David Duchovny and Tea Leoni’s twelve year old son is named Kyd. As much as we enjoy names that end up being a whimsical play on words this one will give you a good chuckle or two. Imagine how they call their son “Hey come here Kyd.”
Ingo Rademacher and Ehiku named their son Peanut. Yes, this is a cute nickname but think about all the hurtful jokes children will have for this name. Some could include “little peanut” or cue in the Snoppy jokes.
10. Fifi Trixibelle
Irish singer Bob Geldof and Paula Yates named their child Fifi Trixibelle. Maybe, they decided to throw in as many dog names as they could think of and call it a day.
11. Elise Otter
Daughter of Zooey Deschannel and Jacob Pechenik was named after the couples favorite animal. Zooey said “I love otters. My husband really loves otters. She better love (otters). They’re really sweet, they’re also smart, they use tools to keep their favorite tools, they hold hands while they sleep. There’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals.” Deschannel is one of the many celebrities who choose to name their children after animals for some strange reason including Bear Blaze and Bear Blu.
12. Briar Rose
The child of Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen was named after a Disney princess-Briar Rose. Probably one of the weirdest and unique names as it is the name Princess Aurora goes by before it is revealed that she’s a princess. Although she might get teased and called Sleeping Beauty or Princess at least we don’t have to worry about her pricking her finger on a spindle as the upcoming generation will have no idea what a spinning wheel is.
13.Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson
According to Uma Thurman’s PR the couple decided to give their child a dozy of a name because “Each name has a special reason and meaning to both the mother and father.” Imagine when the child goes to write their name on a name tag it won’t be able to fit, but at least if their daughter doesn’t like part of her first name she can simply choose which name she wants to go by or exclude the parts of her name she doesn’t (like anyone will notice).
14. Royal Reign
Lil Kim named her daughter Royal Reign, but we will see if she will be able to surpass her mother who isn’t in the limelight anymore.
15. Audio Science
Let it sink in. Shannyn Sossamon explained “We wanted a word not a name, so my boyfriend read through the dictionary three or four times. We were going to call him Science but thought it might get shortened to Sci, as in Simon.” All I have to say is they must really love science. Hopefully they will choose to call him Sci which sounds a little bit more normal.
Courteney Cox’s named their daughter after the nickname her mother was given by friends. This name isn’t so odd but with O.T. Genasis’s song Coco, the boys might start singing “I’m in love with the coco” once again.
17. Saint Laszlo
Child of Pete Wentz and Meagan Camper named their son Saint Lazslo. According to the Catholic Church there was a Saint Laszlo who was a Hungarian king and national hero who was canonized for his piety and moral life. Laszlo has some big shoes to fill and will probably get asked later on in life, by a lot of people, if he really is a saint.
18. Moxie Crimefighter
Although it sounds like a weird superhero name gone wrong, magician Penn Jillette said there’s another reason my they named their daughter Moxi Crimefighter. “Moxi is a name that was created by an American for the first national soft drink and then went on to mean chutzpah, and that’s nice. It’s only the losers named Dave that think having an unusual name is bad, and who ares what they think” Jillette said.
19. Diva Muffin
Frank Zappa is known for naming his children odd names from Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmed Emukha Roda and last but not least Diva Muffin. A name that combines the diva attitude with an edible food.
20. Rocket Man
Rapper Pharrell Williams named his kid Rocket Man, but we will see if hes going to go to space anytime soon.
So there you have it! Most celebrities choose weird baby names because they have some type of edible fascination or are nature lovers. Other celebrities pick a name from the dictionary or they get intrigued by a tongue twister. Lastly, there’s the ones who decide to name their child a pet name or they choose a pretentious name to impress others. But whatever the reason is at least they won’t have to worry about their children having the same name as another child in their class.
