Summer Fun Sans the Sun

Summer fun doesn’t have to mean having to sweat in the Florida heat. There are plenty of fun places that families can spend indoors in the bay area that will keep your family moving and learning, while keeping the heat wave away.

1. Boing Jump Center

Boing Jump Center, Florida’s largest trampoline jump center, is a fun way for kids of all ages to get out of the house and get out some energy while still staying inside. Whether you want to play dodgeball or just jump, the wall to wall trampoline floors are a fun way to beat the heat. For more info visit

2. The Florida Aquarium

The Florida Aquarium is a fantastic way to spend the day indoors, while still being able to see a variety of animals from sea creatures to lemurs. Your kids will love being able to pet stingrays, meet penguins, and see real life divers.

3. Glazer Children’s Museum

The Glazer Children’s Museum will quickly become one of your child’s favorite indoor places to be. With over 170 “interactivities”, including the new National Park exhibit, Mount Rushmore exhibit, and even an interactive Roswell section, there is something for kids of every age.

400,000 square feet of permanent interactive exhibits mean that parents and kids will have hours inside to beat the heat at MOSI. Guests can cool off and relax in the planetarium or the IMAX dome theatre, or let their wild side take over with a ride on a bicycle suspended 30 feet high on a 98 foot wire, with hours of exhibits to explore in-between.

5. AMF Bowling Ally

Weekdays from open to 6 p.m., parents can register their kids (ages 15 and under) for the summer games which lets them enjoy 3 free games, every weekday, all summer long. For a family of 4 to bowl, it is only $39.95, so parents can relax knowing that staying inside won’t empty their wallets.

6. Tampa Bay History Center

For kids that love history, the Tampa Bay History Center is the place to be. With kid-friendly exhibits and even mysterious scavenger hunts, this is a great way to spend an educational and fun day indoors. For info on special kid-friendly events, visit

7. Vertical Ventures

If you are looking for some adventure, Vertical Ventures is one of the most thrilling indoor activities you can find. With over 6,000 square feet of rock walls, instructors will teach you and your children the basics of climbing and will help you tackle any climb. For pricing and info visit

8. Q-Zar Laser Tag

With over 5,000 square feet of air conditioned battle arena, Q-Zar is one of Tampa Bay’s best places to cool off while living a real-life video game. Between games, there are over 50 video games and a food court to relax in before your next big laser tag battle.
