You won’t find high-rises or city traffic —just warm sand, blue waves and naturally quaint communities

Summer vacation is just around the corner, which means it’s time to plan that big family trip. The choices are always difficult, but what if there were a place that combined the quiet solitude of an undeveloped beachfront with the amenities of a destination spot? A place where the beaches were uncrowded, where just a few miles inland wilderness adventures awaited? A place where the kids can have a supervised blast while the parents escaped for a romantic seaside dinner?

Great news:

This paradise exists. Martin County, Florida is the ideal place for a family summer trip. With 22 miles of Atlantic shoreline, this charming hidden gem of the South Florida coast offers activities for the whole family. Let the camp-cation begin.

For the kids, daytime summer camps ranging from water sports and inland retreats to horseback riding and natural education will keep them occupied and entertained.  There’s a unique educational component to each experience—kids can learn about water safety and the ocean. They can learn the basics of navigating sea vessels at sailing camp, or how to bait a hook and identify different water species at fishing camp. There’s even a nature camp for those who prefer to stay away from the ocean. Martin County also hosts a variety of arts-oriented camps, from photography and painting to music, dance, and theatre.

Meanwhile, parents get away for some much-needed alone time. Visit one of the area’s many galleries, museums and historical sites in Stuart, Jensen Beach, Port Salerno, and Hobe Sound or spend the day shopping at the locally owned boutiques and shops scattered throughout Martin County’s historic downtowns. Inland, the area has no shortage of natural wonders begging to be explored. Hike, kayak, bike, birdwatch—or just find a remote spot on the beach and nap the day away.

At the end of each day, the whole family can come back together to taste the local flavors at one of Martin County’s oceanfront restaurants.
