Letter from Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine’s July guest editor, Dr. Steve Knobl, CEO of The Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County
First and foremost, I am the father of two amazing sons, and the husband to an incredible wife. Laura and I have been married for 21 years and blessed with Drew, 15, and Nate, 12. Faith, family and friends are the most important things in our lives. Early childhood education has been a priority for my family for several generations. My family has a deep appreciation and respect for education and life-long learning. My wife and I created quality learning environments and experiences for our sons from a very early age. One of the best ways to teach our children is through play and experiencing the world around us.
We enjoy watching our sons play soccer and flag football. Sports were very influential in my upbringing and taught me life skills such as dedication, commitment, perseverance and team work, to name a few. Raising two loving, respectful and hard-working young men is our mission as a family. Establishing routines, rules and responsibilities with your children is one of the most powerful and important exercises we focus on as parents. Teaching our children how to set goals, how to achieve them, and what that means for their personal development is so important. We also believe that our children have developed personal responsibility and accountability that will help them through adolescence and into adulthood.
We enjoy family trips to the beach, the mountains and love exploring new places together. Laura is a first-grade teacher in Pasco County and has more than 15 years in the Pasco County School System teaching at the kindergarten and first grade levels.
I am committed to working with our community and stakeholders to create a long-term impact through innovative programs and support systems. There’s no reason why Hillsborough County can’t become the top-rated quality early learning community in the state of Florida.
