TampaMama Dishes on the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

Flowers, Fun, Food and Friends Are A Few Reasons to Love Walt Disney World’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival!

April showers are sure bring many May flowers to one Florida destination in particular: the 24th annual Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival! This is by far my favorite time of year to visit Walt Disney World Resort! The flowers, the fun and of course, all my Disney character friends are here to make this visit magical!

Take advantage of the 3-Day or 4-Day Florida Resident Discover Disney deal and visit Epcot between March 1st and May 29th to see the the beauty that is Epcot in Spring. This natural colorful back drop will seem to blossom right before your eyes! In every direction you look, more flowers and more magic appear. Here are 4 reasons why the whole family will love this year’s festival!

  1. Flowers The vibrant sea of colors that are planted in perfect Disney fashion will have you taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful blue skies and warm sunshine that is Epcot in Spring. Walk around and be inspired by the gardens that each have a different vibe as well as inspirations for your own gardens at home. The topiaries are works of art and the so much of the food is fresh from the gardens as well. It’s just the most wonderful time of the year!

Insider Tip: If you are really interested in learning more about the gardens, there is a free Royal Tea Garden Tour each day at 9:30 or you can take a “Behind The Seeds” tour which gives you a look at the greenhouses at The Land Pavilion and at the future of gardening with technology. Makes for a great science lesson! There is also an Epcot Gardens of the World Tour that is a three-hour tour of the special displays and award-winning international gardens. (Call 407-WDW-TOUR to book these tours.)

  1. Fun Epcot has become one of my children’s favorite park at Walt Disney World. Especially during the Spring, there is so much to do here that it’s always the first park we visit during the year! Only during the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival will you find our favorite garden: the Butterflies on the Go Presented by GoGo squeeZ! Watch as butterflies magically hatch from cocoons and take flight and they flutter from flower to flower. It’s such a fun learning exhibit as we get the chance to observe their habits up close too! If your super still, one might even land on you! ! In addition to the butterfly garden, we love playing “I spy” with all the character topiaries! We also have so much fun exploring the World Showcase! With 11 countries to visit, we are always learning something new or tasting something new! There are, of course, a few rides we always manage to visit too like Spaceship Earth, Soarin, Test Track, Frozen Ever After and The Seas With Nemo and Friends. But after a full day of fun, the magical IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth is by far our most favorite night show in all of Walt Disney World. Save a spot along the rails of the World Showcase Lagoon for this show and end the night with lots of magical memories.

Insider Tip: On Saturdays and Sundays, cold GoGo squeeZ is sampled for free at the garden! A perfect and healthy on the go snack while we are headed for more exploring at Epcot!

  1. Friends As always, Epcot will have all many Disney characters available for pictures and more! Visit with Anna and Elsa in the Sommerhus, Alice in the Twinings Tea Garden or dine with all the princesses in Akershus in the Norway Pavilion. Stop by the Character Spot and meet Joy and Sadness from Inside Out or book a FastPass+ for a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie Mouse! And of course the character topiaries are so much fun to get pictures with as well! And speaking of friends, grab a friend and grab some food and head to the American Garden Theater each Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday for the “Garden Rocks” concert series! Enjoy the beautiful outdoor venue overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon. They have curated a great line up of musical artists from the 1960s through the 90s. Everyone in the whole family will love this concert!

  1. Food The best food comes straight from a garden. Fresh Epcot will help showcase all that we can Stop by one of the 13 Outdoor Kitchens to dine on delicious bites of freshly cooked chef-inspired dishes that will delight your taste buds! You’ll love making your way around the World Showcase and using your Fresh Epcot Garden Passport! Most dishes are priced between $5 and 7 dollars which make this the perfect plate for sharing and tasting! We loved the Seared Pork Tenderloin from the outdoor kitchen of Urban Farm Eats and the Seared Scallops from Northern Bloom. And even Joffery’s Coffee and Tea Compnay has a new beverage at each of it’s four locations inside Epcot too! If you are a self-proclaimed foodie, you won’t want to miss this festival! Of course you can always stop by the Pinapple Promenade for a Pineapple Soft-serve Ice Cream (AKA The Dole Whip) one of my all-time favorite classic Disney desserts.

I hope you and the kids will get a chance to head over to Epcot this Spring and enjoy the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival! It’s only here until May 29th so don’t be late for this very important date!

Bonus Insider Tip: Don’t miss out on the chance to allow the kids to play in the redesigned play gardens! There’s a “Cars” themed play garden which introduces the new character “Cruz” from the highly anticipated Disney-Pixar “Cars 3” move! The Music Garden Melodies area is also back with a new design and play ground essentials like climbing nets! Bonus: there is plenty of seating and shade for parents to sit back and relax while the kids play!
